The Lily Watson séance

Recorded: October 19th 1984

"I'm just the same as I ever was. I'm no different"

Lily Watson's husband was interested in 'spook meetings'
- but she never was.

Now when she tries to appear to different mediums,

none of them can ever see her.

The sitters tell Lily that perhaps she should consider moving on from her present existence into a different realm, but Lily doesn't understand...

Mickey explains that Lily is attached to Earthly conditions,
but there are others who are trying to help her.

Another female communicator apologises for the short session,
but because Leslie Flint was unwell,
conditions were not suitable for a longer séance.

Mickey returns to say goodbye
and Leslie reprimands him for calling him 'old Flint'!

Leslie Flint:
This séance was recorded on the 19th of October 1984; medium Leslie Flint.

Lily:
Yes, I know my dear.

Larry Taylor:
Hello?

Lily:
Oh, I never...

Larry:
Hello?

Lily:
Oh, I don't know, I'm sure...

Larry:
Well, you're doing lovely...

Lily:
Well, I'll be blowed...

Larry:
Hello?

Lily:
Oh, I don't know...

Female sitter:
Who's that?

Larry:
What don't you know?

Lily:
Can't make head nor tail...

Larry:

You're doing alright.

Lily:
Eh?

Larry:
You're doing very well.

Lily:
I don't know...

Female sitter:
Who is it? What is your name?

Lily:
Oh dear. It is a funny how-do-you-do, ain't it?

Sitters: [Laughing]

Flint: [Laughing]
Who's that?

Female sitter:
What is your name?

Larry:
Can we help you in some way?

Lily:
Lil.

Sitters:
Lil?

Ros Cattanach:
Well, Lil, what can we do?

Lily:

Eh?

Ros:
Do you know anyone here Lil?

Lily:
Don't think so.

Ros:
Oh, well if you...

Lily:
Why? Do you have to know people?

Sitters: [Laughing]

Female sitter:
No.

Larry:
Not at all.

Ros:
It's very nice... very nice to have you with us.

Aubrey:
Welcome!

Larry:
You're welcome. It's nice for you to...

Lily:
A funny how-do-you-do, ain't it?

Sitters: [Laughing]

Ros:
Can you hear us?

Lily:
Oh, I can hear you.

Ros:
Good.

Lily:
And I can see you.

Sitters:
Can you?

Lily:
Anyway, who are you?
Are you the boss?

Ros:
No...

Sitters: [Laughing loudly]

Female sitter:
Far from it!

Larry:
That's Ros.

Lily:
Well, I understand you have a church?

Ros:
Ah yes, but I'm not the boss.

Lily:
Ain't you?

Ros:
No. I'm just 'the head cook and bottle washer'!

Lily:
I've been... I've been to your place.

Ros:
Have you?

Lily:
I've stood in that church...

Ros:
Yes?

Lily:

...several times...

Ros:
Yes?

Lily:

...hoping someone would say something. Nobody ever did.

Ros:
Well you should have nudged the medium.
Do you mean you went there when you were 'in the body'?

Lily:
No... I never believed in all this spooky business.

Ros:
Well, now you know it's...

Lily:
But I was told that there are Spiritualists and these, here, meetings and this church. And that if I went there, somebody would, you know, see me or something. Nobody did.

Ros:
Oh dear.

Male sitter:

Oh, that's unfortunate.

Lily:
But I thought they were supposed to be - what do you call it - 'clairvoyants', is it?

Ros:
Yeah, well they probably had too many of you.

Lily:
Eh?

Ros:
You were probably... too many of you. You weren't picked.

Lily:
Well, why are they picked up and not me?

Ros:
Well I don't know. Why do some people...

Larry:

There may be more...

Sitters: [Laughing]

Ros:
Why do some people get messages and not others?

Lily:
Well I've seen you up there.

Ros:
Have you?

Lily:
Yes, and you seem to have a lot to do with that there place.

Larry:
She does.

Lily:
Up and down I've seen you walking the aisle...

Larry:
Yes she does.

Sitters: [Laughing]

Lily:
...seen you on the platform.

Ros: [Laughing]
I say, I shall have to be careful!

Lily:
But my husband, you see - of course, he's here now with me...

Sitters:
Good.
Oh that's lovely...

Lily:
But, um, he used to talk about the spook meetings.

Ros:
Did he used to go to them?

Lily:
Well, he went a few odd times. He tried to get me to go. I said, 'no, you're not getting me there. I'd be scared out of my wits!'

Sitters: [Laughing]

Ros:
Well now you know...

Larry:
Well now you know better.

Lily:
Yes, but it's no different. I'm just the same as I ever was. I'm no different.

Ros:
Good.

Lily:
I'm just the same person.

Larry:
Yes, but you understand more now, don't you?

Lily:
Well I understand I'm dead.

Larry:
Yes.

Lily:
And that don't worry me.

Female sitter:
Well you understand you can come back.

Lily:
But this 'getting in touch with people on your side', I... you know...

Larry:
Well, you're doing it now.

Lily:
...I don't know if there's much point in it myself.

Sitters:
Well...

Oh yes!

Ros:
Haven't you anybody you want to give a message to?

Lily:
No fear - I haven't!

Sitters: [Laughing]

Larry:
Well, maybe you can help someone else?

Lily:
I had no children.

Larry:
Well, maybe you can help someone else?

Ros:
Some friends?

Larry:
Yes.

Lily:

Of course, they tell me all about you, and all. You're a medium ain't you?

Larry:
Well, I try to be.

Lily:
Well you've never seen me have you?

Larry:
I don't think so.

Lily:
Why don't you see me then? I'm here. I'm talking to you.
If you're a medium why can't you see me?

Sitters: [Laughing]

Larry:
Well, not everybody is clairvoyant. Sometimes I can hear you, sometimes I can feel you. I can't always see.

Lily:
Well, you ain't much good then are you!

Sitters: [Loud laughter]

Larry:
I'm afraid not. I'm sorry.

I can only do what I...

Lily:
Well I was told...

Larry:
Yes?

Lily:
...by my husband. He used to go to the 'spook meetings', I call them. And he used to say there was - what do you call it - clairvoyants, or whatever it is.

Larry:
Yes, but there are...

Lily:
And they could see the spirits.

Larry:
But there are other forms of...

Lily:
But if... if... if they're mediums, they should see me.

Larry:
Well, not all the time...

Lily:
And I've been to that there church umpteen times. No one took a bloody bit of notice of me!

Sitters: [Loud laughter]

Larry:
I'm sorry, love. You'll just have to keep trying.

Ros:
You'll just have to kick the medium Lil!

Larry:
'Kick the medium' or try speaking to the medium.

Lily:
I don't understand it.

Larry:
Well sometimes a medium will...

Lily:
Well, some of these here mediums aren't much good then are they?

Sitters: [Laughter]

Ros:
Oh yes they are!

Flint: [Laughing]
Oh dear!

Larry:
You have to understand Lily... can I speak to you for a moment?

Lily:
Eh?

Larry:
You have to understand that not all mediums can see. Some can hear and some can feel. It comes in different ways.

Lily:
They can't hear a bloody thing!

Sitters: [Laughter]

Larry:
Pardon?

Lily:
I've shouted.

Larry:
You have?

Lily:
No one's heard me. This is the first time I've ever been able to get through anything - and I'm not so sure about that!

Sitters: [Loud laughter]

Larry:
Well maybe you'll have more luck next time?

Female sitter:
Lil, Lil, we're hearing you loud and clear.

Ros:
Do you remember where you used to live?

Larry:
Lily... Lily are you still there?

Lily:
Eh?

Flint: [Laughing]

Larry:
Do you remember where you used to live?

Lily:
What do you mean 'where I used to live'?

Ros:
When you were on Earth.

Larry:

When you were a physical... when you were in the physical body, when you were on the Earth. Where did you live?

Lily:
In the East End.

Larry:
The East End.

Ros:
I see. And what was your name – apart from Lil?

Lily:
Watson.

Larry:
Watson.

Ros:
Lil Watson.

Female sitter:
Lil Watson.

Lily:
What do you want to know all that for?

Sitters: [All speaking]
Because we're interested...we're interested.

Female sitter:
We're interested in you.

Lily:
Anyway, what are you?

Female sitter:
What am I?

Ros:
She's a medium. And a very good one.

Lily:
Is that what she is? Can you see me?

Female sitter:
No. I couldn't see you, but I can sense you.

Flint: [Laughing]
Dear, oh dear, oh dear!

Aubrey:
Really?

Lily:
Perhaps I'm on a... I don't know.

Female sitter:
Look, when you've learned to communicate...

Lily:
What the hell do you think I'm doing?

Sitters:
[Laughing]

Female sitter:
You're doing it now. You're doing it now Lil, but if it's the first time - and you're doing very well.

Flint: [Coughing]
Dear, oh dear!

Female sitter:
But you see...

Flint: [Coughing]

Female sitter:
...
not all mediums see the same thing. We're all on different levels and vibrations.

Lily:
What's that make me then?

Sitters: [Laughing]

Larry:
Well, I think the first time is difficult and as you experience it you'll be able to do better next time.

Lily:
I don't think it's difficult, not really.

Ros:
You're very fortunate.

Larry:
She's very fortunate.

Lily:
Of course, he says - the boy* - well, he ain't a boy really - he say's that's because I'm on a low level. What the hell does he mean by that?

*the boy = Mickey
Sitters: [Laughing]

Aubrey:
I don't know.

Larry:
Means that you've got a lot to learn.

Ros:
We won't go into that!

Larry:
You've got a lot to learn and that you can grow and expand, if you choose to.

Lily:
I don't want to grow. I don't want to expand.

Female sitter:

Oh, you must Lil. You must.

Lily:
I don't want to expand.

Larry:
Oh you must. There's so much to learn.

Female sitter:
You must.

Lily:
What do you mean 'expand'?

Female sitter:
Look...

Larry:
Well, to reach other levels, to understand things more clearly.

Female sitter:
To go into a brighter and brighter light.

Ros:
And help people over there, like yourself.

Lily:
Well, I'm not miserable. I'm not unhappy.

Ros:
No you don't sound it.

Lily:
I'm quite happy where I am, with my lot.

Sitters: [All talking together]

Female sitter:
But you don't want to stay... you don't want to stay in one place, you want to go forward and progress. Look at the help you can give to people on Earth, as well as in other spheres. There's loads of things you can do.

Lily:
You're a bit of a case you are, ain't you?

Ros:
Are you enjoying yourself Lil?

Lily:
What do you mean?

Ros:
I said, are you enjoying yourself?

Larry:
Are you happy where you are?

Lily:
I'm not miserable, I'm not unhappy.

Ros:
Good.

Lily:
But, you know, it's funny to me though... You know, I wasn't mad keen to come back and all that, but, um, I was told that...

Female sitter:
Why did you then?

Lily:
...told I could come back and I...

Ros:

So you thought you'd have a go?

Female sitter:
Well, you've done very well, you've done marvellously.

Lily:
Well you don't seem to like me!

Sitters: [All together]

Oh, we do!

Flint: [Laughing]

Larry:
We're very pleased to have you here.

Ros:
Of course we like you.

Female sitter:
Lil, can I ask you a question?

Lily:
What do you want then? What do you want to know?

Female sitter:
Did you have any children when you were on the Earth plane?

Lily:
I said I had no children. I got...

Female sitter:
You didn't have any?

Lily:
No, no. Don't want any either.

Ros:
Well Lil, you try...

Lily:
Thank God you don't have them here!

Flint: [Laughing]

Ros:
You try and... you try and come through into our church again.

Lily:
Eh?

Ros:
You try and come through into our church again. When we've got a medium there, you try and come through.

Lily:

Well, I've been there several times and...

Ros:
Well you have another go, you know.

Lily:
...no one takes a blind bit of notice.

Ros:
You've got to persevere.

Larry:
Well maybe you've come through...

Flint: [Sniffing]

Larry:
...and, uh, no one has... no one in the.. in the, um, congregation has recognised you?

Female sitter:
Lil?

Larry:
You know, the link has to be broken.

Female sitter:
Lil, can I ask you another question?

Lily:
I don't know, I'm sure...

Female sitter:
Listen, Lil, when you were on the Earth plane...

Can you hear me?

Larry:
She's probably...

Sitters: [All talking]

Larry:
It was a marvellous experience.

Aubrey:
That was unusual. Gosh!

Sitters: [All talking]

Mickey:
I've got to burst in. I'm awfully sorry about that...

Sitters: [All together]
That's alright...

Mickey:
...but, um, she's not a bad person, but she's very material and very... well, she...she...she...

Larry:
She needs help Mickey.

Ros:
We enjoyed it.

Larry:

We enjoyed helping her and helping her to learn.

Mickey:
She's terribly... well... she's not unhappy, of course, in her own environment, but she... she clings to material things and she clings to Earth and...

Larry:
Yes.

Mickey:
She seems puzzled because nobody wants to, well, make contact, you know.

Female sitter:
Well, we'll send out thoughts for her, Mickey.

Mickey:
But she seems very irritable at times. I don't know what's wrong with her.

Sitter: [Laughing]

Mickey:
She says she's been to meetings and nobody takes a bit of notice of her and...

Larry:
Well, that's unusual.

Mickey:
...she thinks it's most peculiar.

Female sitter:

Well I suppose there is...

Mickey:
I think her husband had a bit of a problem with her.

Sitters: [All laughing]

Flint: [Laughing]
Oh dear!

Ros:
She says they're together, anyhow.

Mickey:
Yeah, they're together, but that doesn't mean to say because people are together [that] they're necessarily...

Larry:
That they're happy.

Ros:
Happy.

Mickey:
They're not unhappy or anything like that. I think they're trying to help her, but she...she's not bad or anything.

Larry:
No.

Female sitter:
No.

Mickey:
She's just, um... well... [laughing]

Ros:
She sounds a very nice lady.

[Break in recording]

Voice:
I'm so sorry. It must be a great disappointment at times. But under the circumstances we've made every effort...

Larry:
Yes, we have...

Voice:
Perhaps another time...

Ros:
Thank you.

Voice:
...we shall be more successful. I'm afraid our friend rather took over. It wasn't our intention. Indeed, we are trying to help the lady in question.

Larry:
Yes.

Voice:
She's not a bad person of course, but she's very materialistically-minded [and] clings to the Earth. She's not exactly an unhappy person and we are doing everything we can to help her, to get her away, as it were, from material thoughts and conditions. And, no doubt, she will eventually... well, leave behind all those material things.

Unfortunately, today has been extremely difficult, really. The medium is, obviously, not in a fit state, but we did not want to disappoint you...

Sitters: [All together]

Thank you...

Voice:
...but we tried our best, so we must go. But my love and blessings. God be with you all.

Larry:
Thank you.

Voice:
Goodbye.

Ros:
Thank you very much.

Sitters: [Altogether]

Goodbye.

Mickey:
I've got to go.

Larry:
Thank you Mickey

Sitters: [Altogether]
Thank you Mickey.

Mickey:
I'd like to have done much more and I'd like to have helped Mrs Moore and that - well, I'd like to help everyone - but anyway, it's not been easy, but I didn't want to let you down, [but] old Flint, you know, he's under the weather. Anyway, bye-bye.

Sitters: [Altogether]
Bye-bye Mickey!
Thank you!

Flint:
Let's not have so much of the 'old Flint'!
