William Stainton Moses was born in Donnington, England in 1839. An English clergyman, ordained by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, he was also one of the founders of the London Spiritualist Alliance, which became the world famous College of Psychic Studies. He was also instrumental in the formation of the famous Ghost Club.

It was to be the first of many, with a variety of different mediums including D.D Home. Within six months he became quite convinced, after receiving messages, witnessing and experiencing events- that he had found truly compelling, that there was truth in these communications. 

What was probably most surprising of all though, was that it became clear that Stainton Moses himself was a talented medium. He started holding his own sittings. In fact he had discovered himself to be a physical, direct voice, and later on, an automatic- writing medium.

It has been documented that it was his direct writing ability which had so many people convinced and impressed.  He would sit reading a book with one hand, while the other hand would write in clear, focussed, inspired tangents of numerous pages, in a hand writing that was uniquely not his own..
